This military project was located on Ford Island in the heart of the Pearl Harbor historical district. Developed by Forest City and headed by General Contractor Hunt Building Company, the Ford Island housing project included 231 homes in which ECH was responsible for all building and underground site electrical and communications infrastructure work that included; Concrete Encased Duct Banks, Manholes, Handholes, HV Cabling, HV Terminating, HIPOT Testing & Certification, HV Switches, Transformers, HV Commissioning, Roadway Lighting, UG Communication Conduits, Mandrel Testing, and Vault Installations.
Historical Preservation
Because of the many important historical aspects related to the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941, protection of Ford Island’s historical site required ECH to work closely with archeologists from the University of Hawaii Manoa. Discoveries of underground historical artifacts during the excavation process required ECH to reroute the Island’s primary distribution infrastructure around historical findings, incorporating both new and existing vaults (which date back to WWII), and ensuring compliance with historical requirements as well as the project specifications and standards.
